Elijah Grant

Dr. Elijah Grant, 73, of Conyers, GA, passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Piedmont Rockdale Hospital. Born on January 17, 1953, in Memphis, TN to the late Hattie Mae Grant and Roosevelt Sims. Elijah was a devoted father, an avid preacher, a critical thinker, and a world traveler.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war from 1970-1972 where he was honorably discharged for his service. He continued his education at the University of Illinois, where he obtained his Bachelor's in Liberal Arts and Science and Masters in Psychology. He worked at the post office for some time until he received training at the Illinois Department of Corrections, which led to him being hired as a correctional officer at Pontiac Correctional Center. Due to his training and educational background, Elijah later got promoted as a counselor at Sheridan Correctional Center in Illinois where he strived to uplift imprisoned inmates by providing them resources, and guidance on how they can reshape, and improve their lives. And even though Elijah showcased himself as an exceptional employee, he later experienced discrimination during his career which led to his departure from the company. Although he spent countless days trying to get back on his feet by taking odd jobs like chauffeuring services, he continuously battled with alcoholism to combat his depressive mood swings. Elijah eventually got back on his feet after realizing what was really important to him - keeping his family together and getting his health back on track. 

Elijah started making strides towards recovery and reconnected with a good friend of his who was blind and managed to regain some of his eyesight back just by eating nutritionally rich foods, detoxing, fasting, and exercising. This inspired him to implement these ideas into his own home which caused some commotion with his immediate family due to this radical change. Even though Elijah experienced resistance from his family, he continued his journey making healthier choices, thus, encouraged him to start studying holistic healing and naturopathy. Elijah advanced his studies and became a Certified Holistic Health Counselor on May 27th, 2007, and completed his Naturopathic Training with Dr.Llaila Afrika on January 20th, 2008.

Elijah’s sense of humor would light up a room. His laugh was contagious and his intelligence was far beyond what many people could comprehend. He loved all kinds of music ranging from motown hits, r&b, jazz, pop, and even soft rock. He also enjoyed going to the movies, traveling, basketball, bowling, shooting pool, and preaching to his family and friends about holistic living, and other controversial topics. In his later years, Elijah would make multiple trips to Swaziland, Africa to tour and reconnect with a beloved friend from the past. He also took on independent road trips to research his ancestors, visit museums, and other tourist sites in the states while making time to visit his family, and attend social gatherings. Elijah has also enjoyed flashing back to his childhood by reliving his pool shark days by beating his daughters in multiple rounds of pool. He is survived by his two daughters, Sheilaina Summers and Contessa Grant. His three sisters and one brother, Millie Grant, Willie Mae Manning, Beulah Grant, and General Grant. He was preceded death by his two sisters and three brothers, Elvoner Grant, Dorothy Cody, James Grant, Charles Grant, Sidney Lawhorn and his wife Sylvia Grant (Harris).
