Obituary

Mrs. Mattie Vinson was born on March 9, 1941, in Morgan County, Georgia, to the late Nathan and Exie Branch. She was the third of four children and also a beloved sister to four adopted sisters, whom she loved very much. Mrs. Mattie was educated in the Walton County School System.

Mattie was a true country girl with a city flare who knew the value of hard work. In her younger years, she spent time working in the fields, cleaning, and caring for children and other families.

Throughout her life, she worked several jobs but later found her favorite place of employment with MARTA Transit, where she retired after approximately twenty years of service.

In 1973, Mattie married Mr. Mack Hicks Jr., and she later moved her family to Decatur, Georgia.

In 1988, she married Mr. Albert J.C. Vinson. Mattie and Albert shared a life filled with travel and cherished time together until his passing in 2023.

Mattie leaves to mourn and cherish her loving memory her three children: Cheryl (Lanier) Ford of Conyers, Georgia; Cynthia (Earl) Knox of Social Circle, Georgia; and Alvin (Cassandra) Branch of Conyers, Georgia. She also leaves behind stepchildren from Decatur, Georgia and the state of Ohio, and one sister in-law, Ms. Yvonne Smith of Savannah, Georgia.

Her legacy continues through her nine grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and two great-great-granddaughters. Her love, strength, hard work, and devotion to her family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Brenda Stewart and the compassionate staff of Longleaf Hospice of Covington, Georgia, for the loving care, comfort, and support they provided to Mattie and her family during her final days. Your kindness, dedication, and gentle care will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.

Though she is no longer with us, Mattie's memory will live on through the family she nurtured, the lives she touched, and the many memories she created. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
