Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David "Dave" Blaikie on September 7, 2024, in Atlanta, Georgia. He was 76 years old. Dave was born in Birmingham, Alabama, to Kermit Edward Blaikie and Olive Inez Whisenant Blaikie on April 2, 1948. He graduated from Warrior High School in 1966, Jacksonville State University in 1972, and Birmingham School of Law in 1986. He was a member of AICPA, ASCPA, and Sigma Delta Kappa. During his long and accomplished career at Bank of America, Dave took on many roles, each marked by his drive to dive in headfirst, ask the tough questions, and lead by example. His most fulfilling role was as a Learning Manager, where he pursued his passion for mentoring and teaching, guiding others to reach their highest potential. His mentorship spanned the globe, impacting individuals in the USA, India, and the Philippines. Dave played a key role in supporting Bank of America through major transitions, including the LaSalle Bank merger and the acquisition of Countrywide Financial. His efforts ensured smooth integrations and his commitment to developing new talent was evident as he successfully onboarded and trained hundreds of new employees. Dave was widely known at Bank of America for his deep commitment to volunteerism. He served as co-chair of Bank of America Community Volunteers in Atlanta and was proud to be a Bank of America Ambassador. He earned a Global Volunteer Award and several President's Volunteer Service Awards. His dedication to his community and willingness to lend a helping hand reflected the kindness and generosity he embodied in all aspects of his life. Outside of work, Dave was passionate about music, politics, and University of Alabama sports, particularly football. He also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, dog rescue organizations, and diversity groups, making a positive impact in his community. He was adevoted father to his daughter Heather Blaikie, supporting her in all her pursuits. Above all, Dave was devoted to his loving wife of 37 years, Dianne Whitley Blaikie. They passed away together. Dave is survived by his daughter Heather Blaikie and her spouse Llano Blue; chosen family Joshun (Joe) and Claudia Gordon, and "S-Grandkids" Denali Gordon, Arianna Gordon, and Britnie Acevedo; brother-in-law Hal Whitley and his wife Erin, and their children Tommy, Aimee, Ben, Adam, and Grace; sister-in-law Roberta Whitley and her children, Scott and Michelle; brother Michael Blaikie, his daughter Erica Blaikie Young and her husband Adam Young, and granddaughters Alice and Eden Young; and niece Charlene Blaikie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit Edward Blaikie and Olive Inez Blaikie; his brother, Charles Blaikie; and his nephew, Michael Blaikie. A celebration of life will be held for close friends and family at a later date. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Habitat for Humanity, Ronald McDonald House, or Hero Dog Rescue, in honor of Dave's memory, and the causes he cared deeply about. Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
