It is with a heavy heart that we share the news of the passing of Anthony Bussteria Rodgers, who transitioned on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Born on October 14, 1933, in Craven County, Fort Barnwell, NC, Anthony was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Affectionately known as "Boat" and "Buddy," Anthony grew up in Fort Barnwell, NC, before moving to Norfolk, VA, as the second of thirteen children. In Norfolk, he met his wife of 67 years, Pattie Mildred Bazemore. After marrying on August 8, 1958, they relocated to Brooklyn, NY, where they raised their five children: Alenda, Anthony, Demetrius, Nicole, and Timothy. A skilled craftsman and hardworking entrepreneur, Anthony was highly regarded for his bricklaying abilities and served as a superintendent for Jenkins Construction. A member of Local 59, his work touched many landmarks, including the NYC Main Post Office, the Museum of Natural History, and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. He also founded his own family business, Rodgers and Rodgers, and operated a neighborhood fruit and vegetable stand on St. John's Place in Brooklyn. Anthony was a pillar of the community and a devoted member of Liberty Baptist Church, where he served as Chairman of the Deacons and on the Board of Trustees for, for many years. Upon retirement, he and Pattie returned to Virginia, where they resided in Chesapeake. In his final days, he resided with his eldest son, Anthony Jr., in Conyers, GA. He is survived by his wife, Pattie Mildred Rodgers; his children, Alenda Branch (Reginald), Nicole Vessells (Matthew), Anthony Rodgers Jr., Timothy Devin Rodgers (Kristin), and forever daughter-in-laws, Carla Hillyer, and Nicole Graham; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grand children; three sisters; three brothers; and a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Demetrius. Anthony led a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a strong foundation for his family to build upon. He now joins his loved ones who passed before him to dance around heaven all day. With love, The Rodgers Family
